After watching Coffee Prince I had to have the music! Luckily it was easy to find. A Korean drama blogger collected the songs (even the ones not on the official soundtrack) and has them available for download on her site. Thank you so much, dramabeans! :D
It’s amazing how a song can affect the mood of a scene. If only everybody put as much thought into it as the staff of Coffee Prince. Their music is pure perfection. I feel like giving them a big hug!
What do you do when you’ve seen the latest episodes of your favorite series and there just isn’t anything else to watch on tv? You watch series from other countries! Yes, I have started watching Asian dramas. I found a nifty site for downloading them. It’s called Silent Regrets. (What’s up with that name? O_o) I tend to like the Korean dramas best.
I’m almost done watching Coffee Prince. I love it! ^_^ It’s about a girl, Eun Chan, who dresses very masculine. She meets a rich guy, Han Kyul, that thinks she is a boy. He then hires her to pretend to be his gay lover to scare off a bunch of matchmaking dates that his grandmother setup. Over time they both start having romantic feelings for one another. This becomes a problem because he still thinks that she is a guy. He struggles with his “gay” feelings and she is afraid she’ll lose him forever if she tells the truth. The characters are great and the acting is top notch! Five stars! :D
I watched the pilots of Gary Unmarried, Worst Week, and The Mentalist. Now I’m convinced that there is hope for the fall television lineup. ;)
Gary Unmarried was better than I expected, which isn’t saying much because I expected to hate it. Jay Mohr tends to bother me but he was amazingly likeable in this new sitcom. He plays a recently divorced father of two that owns a painting business. Honestly, most of the jokes weren’t funny. Like when his daughter Louise is excited to tell him that she has a new picture of Al Gore to hang on her wall (mmmk) or when his son makes some remark about being afraid of girls (nothing new there). What it all comes down to is that Jay Mohr makes the show. Without his character’s witty remarks it would be a waste of time. Unfortunately, it’s just not enough to keep me coming back. (3 stars)
If you can’t stand to watch shows that have the character go through embarrassing moment after embarrassing moment, Worst Week is not for you. It’s about a guy who is trying to make a good impression on his pregnant fiance’s family but is failing miserably. It had some extremely funny moments as well as some extremely horrifying (and sometimes still funny) moments. I skipped one scene because it was too much for me. The characters are a breath of fresh air especially the main character, Sam Briggs, played by Kyle Bornheimer. He doesn’t get discouraged or whine about how everything is going wrong. He just handles the situations as they come up and takes every opportunity to try and prove his worth to his future in-laws. Overall, this show was very funny and I do plan to watch the next episode, I just don’t know if I can handle Sam’s constant humiliation. (4 stars)
The Mentalist was great. Patrick Jane, played by Simon Baker, is a detective that uses his amazing observational skills and sly intellect to solve crimes. Before he became a detective he made money by pretending to be psychic but a tragic event put an end to that lifestyle. I loved this show and can’t wait for the second episode. If you like CSI or Crossing Jordan you’ll like The Mentalist. And yes, it is definitely a rip off of Psych but guess what… I don’t care for Psych and I love The Mentalist so good job CBS! *cheers* (5 stars)
I’ve been wanting to share this sketch since I saw it last Saturday on SNL. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. Here it is, Of Mice and Men.
The week before, Andy Samberg did a Cathy impression that was hilarious. If you’ve ever read the comic you know that he got it dead on. She is actually that retarded. I really wanted to share that clip as well but I couldn’t find it anywhere. :(
I gave Do Not Disturb another chance, I really did. I watched the second episode. I was optimistic and in return I was sorely disappointed. This show is a complete flub. Rhonda (Niecy Nash) runs around trying to keep playboy Neal (Jerry O’Connell) inline. Meanwhile the rest of the cast does their own little mischievous things. That isn’t the reason it sucks though. The reason is that the writing is poorly done. It’s rushed and has no uniqueness to it.
In the second episode Larry and Molly fight over who gets to direct the bell boy to the rich female hotel guests in exchange for a cut of his tips. Basically being the bell boy’s pimps. Now how is it even possible to make a great plot like that into a boring piece of crap? I don’t know but they accomplished it! One thing I noticed was that instead of trusting the audience to catch onto their transformation into pimpdom someone outright calls Larry a pimp. Subtlety is everything in a skit like that. *shakes head*
I was shocked to find out that the writer of Do Not Disturb actually worked on one of my favorite shows, Arrested Development. A comedic masterpiece such as that can’t possibly have any connection with this soon-to-be cancelled sitcom. Alas, my world is shattered. *gets over it*
I love TV. You could even say that I “heart” TV. Yes, it’s shocking I know but that is how much I love it.
Now that fall has arrived I’m excited for the return of some of my favorite shows. The Office is number one on my list. A little further down is Grey’s Anatomy, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Survivor, and Desperate Housewives. Rawr, I can’t wait! ^_^
There are also a few new shows coming out that I’d like to see. The Mentalist is one of them. It seems like a better version of Psych. You can’t blame them for taking a good idea and turning it into an awesome one. ;)
Then there is The Ex List. A woman, played by Elizabeth Reaser, finds out from a psychic that she has already met and left the man that will be her ideal future husband. So she has to track down every guy she has ever had a relationship with and reevaluate her decision. It sounds like another great drama/comedy along the lines of Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. Btw, Elizabeth Reaser also plays Ava (aka Rebecca Pope) in Grey’s Anatomy. She is a phenomenal actress.
The new show that I’m most interested in is Kath and Kim. Who wouldn’t love a show starring Molly Shannon? Not only did they get an amazing cast but the previews have compared it to The Office. Don’t worry, I’m not a fool. I know that my beloved TV lies about many things. I won’t let myself get too attached to the promise of hilarity.
I have already watched the pilot episodes of three new shows: Do Not Disturb, Privileged, and The Rachel Zoe Project. Sadly I was not impressed by any of them.
Do Not Disturb is about a hotel and its wacky employees. I am so annoyed that they put Jerry O’Connell in the role of hunky manager that sleeps with any woman he wants. First of all, who decided that Jerry O’Connell is attractive enough to play that type of character? Maybe I need to put my glasses on because he looks like a plain ol’ average guy to me. Secondly, he also played the same sex-addicted commitment-phobic bachelor type in his last sitcom Carpoolers. Come on Jerry; try to branch out a little. Then there was the whole plot of Niecy Nash’s character sneaking around the hotel to have sex with one of her employees. Every time Jerry and Niecy were on screen I felt like I was watching a commercial, I just wanted it to be over so that I could get back to the real show. Now for the positive, all of the other characters were amusing and had funny things going on. My recommendation to the writers of Do Not Disturb is to kill off Jerry O’Connell’s character immediately, preferably in the most painful way possible, and give Niecy Nash a plot worth showing up for. Then of course keep up the good work with the other characters. (2.5 stars)
Privileged was a cute show. The main character is smart and quirky, overall a pleasure to watch. The basic plot is that a rich businesswoman hires the main character, an Ivy League graduate, to tutor her granddaughters so that they can get into Duke University. Of course the granddaughters give her a hard time and resist any attempts to teach them. As I said before, it’s a cute show, but not something I’m willing to tune into week after week. It seems to me that they won’t be able to come up with enough content to do more than one season, possibly two if they stretch it out. I guess she could get the girls into Duke then become the grandmother’s assistant or move onto another super rich family to receive torture. *shrugs* I can only see it going downhill as time goes by. Maybe they never expected the show to last more than one season anyway. They have to meet their quota somehow. ;) (3.5 stars)
The Rachel Zoe Project was the worst. I can’t stand to watch it. In the first episode Rachel hires a new assistant, Brad, and leaves him with her other assistant, Taylor, to be trained. Instead of teaching him the ropes, Taylor just expects him to know what to do and then gets all pissed off when he doesn’t do it. Not only that but she gives him the silent treatment several times. She is just so disrespectful and what makes it even worse is that he is such a sweet and friendly guy. I suppose every show needs a villain and this one certainly has the wickedest of them all. *rolls eyes* (0.5 stars because Brad was a delight)
Maybe I should have titled this post, “I <3 Good TV.” :P
There is a new reality show called Groomer Has It. In the show, dog groomers compete to get the title of Groomer of the Year. Here is the thing; the groomers that they selected to be on the show aren’t the best groomers in the United States. Instead, they were chosen because of their varying backgrounds. I don’t understand how you can dub someone “Groomer of the Year” if they aren’t competing against the very best.
The host of the show is Jai Rodriguez. You may recognize him from his hit show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. They make him say a lot of retarded puns like “one of you will go back to the dog house with your tail between your legs,” and “every dog has its day,” etc. I feel bad for the guy.
One of the judges, Xavier Santiago, is extremely awkward. At first I hated him but now I kind of like him because he is so weird.
I haven’t become attached to any of the competing groomers so far. Most of them seem like they’re missing half a brain. Hopefully that will change as the show goes on.
Overall, Groomer Has It is mediocre. There are better dog related shows out there like DogTown and Petfinder. If I weren’t interested in dogs and what it’s like to be a groomer I would stop watching it.
I love Three’s Company. I never thought that I’d be able to watch an American sitcom from the 70’s and like it.
At first I hated it, Suzanne Somers’ acting was poor and John Ritter’s over the top slap-stickiness got on my nerves. Now that I’m used to it, I really enjoy the show. The plots are funny and the characters lovable. I especially like Joyce DeWitt as Janet.
This new discovery inspired me to give a few other 70’s sitcoms a try. Sometimes I watch the last fifteen minutes of M*A*S*H because I’m waiting for Three’s Company to start. In two of the three episodes that I saw they had to be saved by a helicopter. It would have been more entertaining if the helicopter didn’t show up and everyone died. I really don’t like the characters at all. :P (When my sister and I were younger, she would scream everytime she heard the theme song… she probably still does.) Sanford and Son was pretty funny but didn’t capture my interest enough to keep me from changing channels. I loved Mork & Mindy as a kid… I don’t love it anymore. Maybe it’s just that I’ve seen enough of Robin William’s humor to last two life times. (btw, Jim Carrey also falls into that category. -_-’ )
